After Your Surgery
You will be discharged after our medical staff has determined that you are alert and comfortable. We will review your detailed post-procedure instructions regarding diet, rest, exercise, and medication prior to your discharge. Our medical staff will answer any questions that you may have. You will also receive a written copy of these instructions.
Since it is normal to feel dizzy, drowsy, or even nauseated for 12 to 24 hours after anesthesia, you should wait at least 24 hours after discharge to:
- Drive or operate equipment
- Sign any important papers or make any important decisions
- Drink alcoholic beverages
You will be required to have a responsible adult drive you home. All patients receiving sedation or anesthesia are required to have someone stay with them for the first 24 hours following their surgical procedure. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ALONE. Activities on they day of your surgery should be kept to a minimum. Please allow for rest periods once you have returned home.
If you have any problems or concerns once you are home, please do not hesitate to call your doctor. Do not take any medicine that was not prescribed or acknowledged by your surgeon or referring physician.
A member of our staff will call you at home the day after your procedure for a post-op interview and to answer any questions that you may have.
We encourage you to share your opinion of your experience at Midwest Surgery Center with us. Please take a moment to complete and submit our Patient Survey.
